Sending Encrypted Emails Using FYEO or Encryption Options
This article is accessible to everyone.
This article explains how to send encrypted emails from the ACES email system. There are 2 methods:
1) Using the Encrypt button - Note, you must have the latest version of MS Office installed or be using the Web version of Outlook
2) Using "FYEO"
Using the Encrypt Button
When sending a new message, click the "Options" tab and then the encrypt button. There are 4 choices:

- Encrypt-Only is for when sending to outside users. This option will encrypt the message and the receiver will need to enter a code to read the email
- Do Not Forward is for use when sending to outside users. This option will encrypt the message and also make it so the reciever cannot forward a the email onto any other user.
- Area Cooperative Educational Services - Confidential. This option places a "Confidential" heading on the email and makes it so the email cannot be printed or copied.
- Area Cooperative Educational Services - Confidential View Only. This option places a "Confidential" heading on the email and makes it so the email cannot be printed or copied. Also, the email cannot be forwarded to any other user.
Using "FYEO"
The method to send a secure email is to include the acronym “FYEO” in the subject. It stands for “For Your Eyes Only”

The “FYEO” acronym is a signal to the Microsoft office system to encrypt the email for secure delivery.
When the recipient receives the email, they won’t see the message right away. They’ll see a message as shown in the example below.

The recipient can see the message by going to the attachments and clicking on the “Message” attachment.

When the recipient clicks the message.html attachment, they can choose to open the attachment and receive the following screen.

If the user has a valid Microsoft account, they can sign in to see the attachment.
If they don’t have an account, or just don’t wish to use it to open this email, the recipient can click the “Use One Time Passcode” option to receive a special code to open the email.
If the recipient chooses the one time passcode option, the system will take several minutes and send the user a second email with a special code.

The recipient should enter the code in the field and click “Continue” to read the message.
