Microsoft 365 First Time Login

This article steps through an initial login to Microsoft 365 and setting up multi-factor authentication using the Microsoft authenticator app.
First Time Microsoft 365 User Login
The steps below will walk through a first-time login of Microsoft 365 and setting up the MS Authenticator application.
On an internet enabled computer, go to
https://www.office.com/
Click the blue “Sign In” button to start the sign in process
Enter your email address and click “Next”
Enter your password and click “Sign In”
If this is the first time you are logging in, you will need to set up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA is required when using ACES accounts to ensure security. You will only need to do the setup process once.
To start the MFA setup process, click “Next”
You may use an existing authenticator application on your phone or other mobile device. If you do not have one, you will need to download an authenticator application to your phone or mobile device. ACES recommends the Microsoft Authenticator app. It is available from the Google Play store or Apple store.
After you have downloaded the app, click “Next”.
Once you download and install the authenticator app, click the option to add an account. On the MS Authenticator app, is the plus sign in the upper right of the app. The app will ask what type of account to add.
Click the choice for Work or School Account.
The screen on the computer will show a QR code. On the phone choose the option to scan a QR code and scan the code that appears on the computer screen.
The phone will display that it is activating the account and will take a moment.
Once completed, the phone will display that the authenticator app is activated and you will see your email address in the apps list of authenticated accounts. The sample below shows that this user uses the authenticator app for many other applications besides ACES.
On the computer screen, click Next to verify the app is working.
The authenticator app will ask you to type the number you see on the screen and click “Yes”.
If you type the correct number, the authenticator app will be verified. Click “Next”.
Click “Done” to finish verifying the authenticator application.
You will now test your first login with the authenticator application.
