Chromebook - Device Will Not Power On

Do you have a Chromebook that will not power on?

There may be a few reasons why your Chromebook is not turning on.

1. Let's start with the charger. Maybe that is the problem. How will you know?

  • Make sure that the Chromebook is charging.
  • Check the LED light near the charging port. Depending on what type of Chromebook you have, there should be a solid blue or orange light indicating that it has a full charge.
  • If you had your Chromebook plugged in for over 3 hours and you don't see a light, it's a pretty good indicator that you need a new charger.

2. Try a hard reset.

  • This might clear some internal operations...clears RAM and any caches that could prevent the OS from booting up
  • Press and hold Refresh+ tap Power. When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh

3. Remove all connected USB devices. Sometimes if you have headphones plugged in or other external devices, that might prevent it from starting.

4. You can also try to POWERWASH it. That means you will be setting the Chromebook back to factory settings. It cleans the entire system. A factory reset will not delete any of your files on Google Drive, but it will erase all information on your chromebook's hard drive, including any settings, apps, or files and return it to its original beginning. If you are not comfortable with this, call the school for a swap.

These are a few of the things that you can try at home before contacting the school for a swap.
