Chromebook - Repeating Keys

When I press a key on my keyboard, it keeps repeating. Why?

There might be a few reasons for this strange activity.

 Liquid or Food

Did you spill anything liquid on your Chromebook? Do you have cookie crumbs all over your keyboard? If so, you might have caused the circuit board in the keyboard to short out. This will definitely cause some strange things to happen, like hitting a key and have it automatically repeat. Try to dry out the keyboard. If that doesn't work, make arrangements with your school to arrange for a Chromebook swap.

Software Glitch

Occasionally there will be a keyboard software problem causing the keys to repeat.  Simply restarting your Chromebook might resolve this issue.

If not, you might have to try a hard restart. That usually resets all software and hopefully this will do the trick.

How to do a Hard Reset:

To fix some Chromebook problems, you might need to  reset your Chromebook hardware, also called a hard reset. It will restart your Chromebook hardware (like your keyboard and touchpad), and might delete some files in your Downloads folder. IT RESETS YOUR CHROME SETTINGS BACK TO DEFAULT.

How to do a hard reset:

1. Turn off your Chromebook

2. Press and Hold Refresh + tap Power

3. When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh

Just Worn Down

Over time, with all the use a keyboard gets, some of the keys can begin to stick. Sometimes the keys don't release back to their normal position. The keyboard is just getting old. If this is the case, please call the school to arrange for an exchange.
